President Macri: “We will continue to work together, taking responsibility for our duties”

Macri spoke at a press conference in the Casa Rosada following the results of the primary elections (PASO) in Argentina on 11 August.

At a press conference in the Casa Rosada following the results of the primary elections (PASO) in Argentina on Sunday 11 August, President Macri said that his government “will continue to work together, taking responsibility for our duties,” and revealed that he has instructed his economic team “to prepare all necessary measures to protect the Argentine people.”

“I have called all the confirmed candidates from the primary elections to congratulate them and invite them to participate in an electoral process that is constructive for Argentines,” he said, emphasising his absolute commitment as Argentine president to guaranteeing institutional stability.

Macri gave the press conference together with vice-presidential candidate Senator Miguel Angel Pichetto, after a cabinet meeting in the Casa Rosada.

The president thanked the over 7.5 million Argentines who voted for his Juntos por el Cambio (Together for Change) coalition, “who ratified the road to change that we initiated more than three and a half years ago and along which we still have a way to go.”

“But I also want to say that every election is a message, one that we are listening to. We understand that the votes that weren’t with us represent an accumulated anger towards the tough economic process we're undergoing,” he added, alluding also to the difficult legacy inherited from the previous government.

“We understand this. We are here to continue working, convinced that we still have so much more to show, to put forward, to debate, to accomplish,” he said.

Senator Pichetto reminded the audience that yesterday’s election is was simply a primary election, and not an end to an electoral process.
