Puerto Iguazú receives international flights for the first time in five years

For the first time in five years, the Cataratas Del Iguazú international airport (IGR) that serves the city of Puerto Iguazú and the nearby Iguazú Falls has started to receive international flights. Air Europa now operates a twice-weekly flight between Madrid and the north-eastern city that borders Brazil and Paraguay.

The new routes come after a revision of the Air Transport Charter between Argentina and Spain that will enable further routes to open up between Iguazú and other cities in Spain.

In the last three years, the charter has enabled 52 new connections between Spain and Argentina that do not pass through the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires.

In 2018, passengers in and out of the Cataratas Del Iguazú airport exceeded one million for the first time in its history.

Works are ongoing at the airport to expand its terminal, reconstruct its runway and taxiway, and remodel the control tower, at a total cost of $ARS 3 billion.
