Every May 29, Argentina celebrates Argentine Army Day, in honor of the creation of this institution by the First National Government in 1810. The date commemorates the First Junta’s decision to organize the first military units intended to defend the revolutionary process that began on May 25 and to consolidate the emancipation of what was then the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata.

Thus, the Argentine Army was born as a fundamental tool in the struggle for freedom, autonomy, and the building of a sovereign nation. Over more than two centuries of history, it has been part of the most important national achievements and has established itself as the land branch of the Armed Forces and the executive arm of the National Defense System.

The institution represents not only the historical legacy of those who fought for independence, but also a modern force prepared to face current challenges in defense of the strategic interests of the Argentine Republic.

Always active and dedicated, the Army defends our sovereignty with honor, safeguards strategic resources, and represents the nation in international peacekeeping missions, protecting the freedom and territorial integrity of the Argentine Republic.

216 years after its founding, Argentine Army Day provides an opportunity to pay tribute to all those who serve in the institution, both active-duty and retired, recognizing their dedication to service, commitment, and devotion in defense of the nation.
