Every 24 April, the genocide suffered by the Armenian people between 1915 and 1923 is commemorated; it is one of the most significant tragedies of the 20th century.
This day commemorates the events that took place in 1915 in the city of Istanbul, when hundreds of Armenian political, religious and intellectual leaders were arrested and subsequently executed, marking the beginning of a systematic persecution that included forced deportations and the extermination of more than a million people.
In Argentina, this commemoration was established by Law No. 26,199 in 2006, as a call for reflection on the importance of respect between peoples and the defence of human rights.
