Every April 2nd, Argentina commemorates Veterans’ and Fallen Soldiers’ Day in the Malvinas War, a date of profound significance that invites remembrance, recognition, and tribute to those who participated in the 1982 South Atlantic conflict. The choice of this date is linked to the landing of the Argentine Armed Forces on the Malvinas Islands, as part of the effort to reclaim the territory, which had been occupied by the United Kingdom since 1833.

For 74 days, Argentine troops faced adverse conditions, marked by extreme weather, a shortage of resources, and inequality in the face of a superior military power. The conflict ended on June 14, 1982, following the cessation of hostilities.

On November 22nd, 2000, the National Congress enacted Law No. 25,370, which officially established this date as Veterans’ and Fallen Soldiers’ Day in the Malvinas War. Subsequently, in 2006, it was designated as a fixed national holiday.

This commemoration also renews the commitment of the State and society to the legitimate and imprescriptible claim to sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas.

Forty-four years after the Malvinas War, we pay tribute to our heroes, who with courage and sacrifice defended our sovereignty and gave their lives for their country. Their heroic deeds live on in our history.

Honor and glory to our Malvinas heroes!
