Jánuca begins

Today, December 14th, marks the beginning of Jánuca, the Jewish holiday known as the “Festival of Lights” or the “Festival of Lamps”. This eight-day celebration commemorates the miracle that took place in the Temple of Jerusalem more than two thousand years ago.

According to tradition, after the Temple was recaptured, a small amount of oil was found to light the menorah, enough for only one day, but the flame remained lit for eight days.

Jánuca is a celebration that highlights the values of faith, perseverance, and freedom, and brings families together around the daily lighting of the hanukiah, a nine-branched lamp. Each night, a new light is added, accompanied by blessings, songs, and shared moments.

Across the country, the Jewish community celebrates this holiday that reminds us of the importance of keeping the light of hope alive. We salute all the families who celebrate it: Happy Jánuca!
