Between sunset on 22nd and 24th September 2025, the Jewish community celebrates Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, marking the beginning of the year 5786 according to the Hebrew calendar. This two-day holiday, which coincides with the 1st and 2nd of Tishrei, begins a period of reflection and spiritual renewal.
Rosh Hashanah, which means ‘head of the year,’ is celebrated with deeply meaningful traditions. Among them, the blowing of the shofar, a horn that is sounded 100 times, symbolises spiritual awakening. Families gather to share ritual dinners with symbolic foods such as apples and honey, wishing for a sweet and prosperous year.
Beyond the celebration, Rosh Hashanah is also a time for introspection. According to tradition, it is the Day of Judgement, when the actions of the past year are evaluated. For this reason, the greeting ‘Shana tova,’ meaning ‘good year,’ is exchanged and may be accompanied by the Hebrew blessing ‘Leshana tova tikatev vetejatem,’ which translates as ‘may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.’
May this Rosh Hashanah inspire peace, health and renewal. Shana tova!
