August 12th, 1806 marked a decisive chapter in Argentine history: the Reconquest of Buenos Aires. Following the British invasion in June of that year, the city remained under British control for 46 days, until a force made up of Creole militias, regular troops, and organized residents managed to expel the invaders.

Under the leadership of Santiago de Liniers and with the strong support of the population, the defense of Buenos Aires demonstrated the organizational capacity and determination of its inhabitants to preserve their territory. This episode not only meant the recovery of the city, but also strengthened the sense of identity and unity that, a few years later, would be fundamental on the road to independence.

219 years after that feat, we pay tribute to all those who made the Reconquista possible, remembering their courage and commitment. Their historical legacy remains an example of the defense of sovereignty and freedom.
