Fighter Aviation Day

Every June 22nd is commemorated in our country the Fighter Aviation Day, a date that pays tribute to the pilots and personnel of the Argentine Air Force who dedicate their vocation to the mastery of the air and the defense of national sovereignty.

In 1990, the then Chief of the General Staff of the Argentine Air Force officially instituted this commemoration to remember a fundamental milestone in the history of Argentine military aviation: the activation of Fighter Group 1, which took place on June 22nd, 1931. This event marked the formal beginning of fighter aviation in our country and allowed the development and strengthening of the air defense capabilities of the Institution.

The date also remembers the courage and commitment of fighter pilots, especially during the South Atlantic Conflict, where they performed high-risk missions in defense of the Argentine territory, leaving an indelible mark in the collective memory of the country.

On this day, we pay tribute to those who have been and are part of this specialty, and we reaffirm our commitment to the recognition of those who, from the air, protect national sovereignty with professionalism and vocation of service.
