Every June 2nd, Argentina pays tribute to volunteer firefighters, recognizing their dedication, courage and commitment to the community. This date commemorates the creation of the first volunteer fire department in the country, founded in 1884 in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of La Boca by Tomás Liberti and his son, who, together with a group of neighbors, organized a human chain to extinguish a fire in the area.

In recognition of their work, in 2001 the National Congress sanctioned Law No. 25,425, which establishes June 2 as the “National Day of the Volunteer Firefighter of the Argentine Republic”.

Currently, the National System of Volunteer Firefighters has more than 1,100 associations distributed throughout the country. These associations are organized in 28 provincial federations that make up the Council of Federations of Volunteer Firefighters of the Argentine Republic.

Volunteer firefighters play a fundamental role in civil protection, providing rapid and effective responses to emergencies, natural disasters and risk situations, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their work, performed selflessly and with a deep sense of solidarity, is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of communities throughout the country.

Behind every uniform there is a conscious and generous choice: the choice of a path of service vocation. Men and women who, between their daily jobs and responsibilities, make time to train and prepare themselves with professionalism to save lives and protect the assets of their community.

On this special day, we express our deep gratitude and recognition to all volunteer firefighters in Argentina, who, with their vocation of service, contribute daily to the construction of a safer and more caring society.

Happy National Volunteer Firefighters Day!
