This May 29 is the 215th anniversary of the creation of the Argentine Army, a key institution in our national history. The date recalls the decision of the First Government Junta, in 1810, to organize the first military units with the aim of defending the revolutionary process initiated on May 25 and consolidating the emancipation of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. Thus, the Argentine Army was born as a fundamental tool in the struggle for freedom, autonomy and the formation of a sovereign nation.
Since then, the Army has been the protagonist of the most significant patriotic deeds, accompanying the path towards independence and consolidating its role as the land branch of the Armed Forces and the executing arm of the National Defense System. Currently, its mission is clear: to serve the homeland, contribute to national defense and protect our independence and sovereignty, with vocation, professionalism and commitment. In addition to defending the interests of the Nation, the Argentine Army contributes to its scientific, technological, economic and social development, and cooperates to achieve the general welfare of its inhabitants.
The Argentine Army not only represents the historical legacy of the fight for freedom, but also a modern institution, prepared and trained to face the current challenges in defense of the country and its strategic interests.
The “General San Martín” Horse Grenadier Regiment, created by the Liberator himself, is present at the Casa Rosada. The Ayacucho Squadron, belonging to the Argentine Army, whose main mission is to provide security to the President of the Nation, both in the Government House and in the Olivos Presidential Residence.
