On a day like today but in 1813, the Assembly of Year XIII adopted as the Patriotic March the composition that would later be known as the Argentine National Anthem, one of the highest expressions of patriotic sentiment and a fundamental symbol of our identity as a Nation.

The lyrics were written by Vicente López y Planes and the music composed by Blas Parera. The piece was performed for the first time in the house of Mariquita Sánchez de Thompson, known for her active participation in the social and political life of the time.

Over time, it underwent modifications until it acquired the form we know today, always respecting its essence and symbolic force.

The National Anthem is one of our most recognised patriotic symbols, along with the flag and the coat of arms. It is sung at school ceremonies, official ceremonies, sporting competitions and historic moments that mark the life of the country, renewing the commitment to the values of freedom, sovereignty and equality.

On this date, we pay tribute to those who created it and to all those who, generation after generation, sing it with pride, echoing in its stanzas the desire for a free and just homeland.
