Record 147 million tonne harvest expected for 2018-2019

The Agroindustry Secretariat has increased its 2018-2019 agricultural production forecast from 145 million tonnes to 147 million tonnes, a new record for agricultural production in Argentina.

Secretary for Agroindustry, Luis Miguel Etchevehere, stressed that after having suffered the worst drought in 50 years, the achievement is down to renewed trust and investment on the part of producers.

“This is a qualitative achievement, the result of crop rotation processes that allow us to think long-term and break records,” he said.

Expected records for both corn (57 million tonnes) and wheat (19.5 million tonnes) production have driven up the forecasts, reflecting a parity between grasses and soybean production, which is fundamental for the sustainability of the production system and for soil protection.

Soybean production is expected to reach 55.3 million tonnes, an increase from last season’s production of 37.8 million tonnes that was hampered by adverse weather conditions.

The next Agroindustry Secretariat report will be published on 15 August.
